Kite Facilitator Certification

Posted August 5,2019 • By Alaryn Marci Gamaro

On the 16th day of July 2019, the Kite Facilitator Certification was held at the Batangas Sports Complex,
Batangas City. 31 registered pastors from the different districts of SCLC, together with their families and
friends, participated in the event. One of its goals was to train pastors to become effective kite flying
facilitators so they can implement this activity in their districts skillfully.

The event started with a devotional led by Pastor Peras. He emphasized in his message that we are all
kites and we need God, as the wind, to help us fly high in the sky.

Right after the devotional, Mr. James Kekenusa, from the Kite Association of the Philippines (KAP),
briefed the attendees on how to assemble and fly three different kites: sled kites, diamond kites, and
delta kites. Though it was drizzling, the pastors and other attendees still enjoyed assembling and flying
their own kites. They also said that the event made them reminisce their childhood. “I feel like I am a
child again.” Pastor James Gonzales commented. Some of the attendees also brought their own kites in
large sizes and colorful patterns; it looked beautiful in the sky.

One of the advocacies of KAP is to give a kite for every kid. It is to encourage kids to do outdoor activities
instead of just staying at home using their gadgets. Also, it is a nice way of “family bonding” according to
Mr. Kekenusa during his interview. “It’s healthy kasi nakabilad kayo sa araw at may hangin.” [It’s healthy
because you are under the sun and there is fresh air.] He added.

The event was a success for the pastors and other attendees had fun and were geared up of advices on
how to make and fly kites. The event ended with a free lunch and a prayer.

Evangelism can be done in many ways, and this work of us is just an example of it. We did not baptized anyone but there is a great cost in the heart of our brethren. It is something that no one can explain or imagine how joyous we are because there is an unmeasurable happiness in serving and joining God’s divine ministry. The Holy Spirit of Our Heavenly Father may continually work in the hearts of our parishioners that they may always support and join in every program or activity of our conference, district, and churches...
