The 1st Conference-wide Adventist Senior Citizens Ministries Convention: A Success!

Posted September 21,2016 • By Elizabeth Uy-Fofue Family Ministries

One hundred twenty-three registered Adventist senior delegates and other unregistered seniors visited, and other different age group, making about 200 in all, attended the 1st Adventist Senior Citizen Ministries (ASCM) Convention. It was held at the Literature Ministry Seminary in Lipa Adventist Academy Campus in Bugtong, Lipa City on April 22-24, 2016, under the supervision of Mrs. Elizabeth U. Fofue, the newly elected Family and Music Ministries director of South-Central Luzon Conference. Adventist seniors represented the six provinces namely: Laguna, Batangas, Quezon-Marinduque, Mindoro Oriental and Occidental. With the theme, “We still bear fruit,” the officers of the Adventist Senior Citizens Ministries headed by Brother Vic Abuan organized and promoted the event’s program and activities. The lyrics of the ASCM theme song used in this event was composed by one of the senior citizens, Mr. Bayani Agnazata.

The guest speakers and topics include: NPUC President Pastor Romeo Mangiliman, Keynote message; Ms. Jing Guerrero, from the Department of Health Office, lectured on mental health; recently retired NPUC Women’s Ministries Director Esther Daquila, “Sunset Years can be Golden;” NPUC Women’s Ministries Director Irelyn Gabin, “Fruits in Due Season;” Dr. Armand Fabella, Church at Worship Message and Sabbath afternoon lectured on Mental and Spiritual health; Pr. Norbing Villarias, “The Splendor of Aging;” NPUC Family Ministries Director Delba de Chavez, Sunday Morning Devotional speaker; Dr. Erlinda Caagbay, “Healthy Aging: The Choice is yours;” and Dr. Elias Escu eta, on Nutrition.

The commitment message speaker, SCLC President Pastor Wally Panaglima spoke and challenged the seniors saying, “The older you are, the wiser you must become; be strong, continue to bear fruit, continue to get involved and support the Lord’s work.”

Most of the seniors commented how blessed and thankful they were for attending the convention, and would look forward to another one in another venue soon. Some said, they would like a field trip to a far place, a retreat in a beach resort, or a nature camp. But many of them (despite aging) declared that their strength were renewed and are now inspired to do more for the Lord upon their return to their respective churches. We praise God for the success!

Evangelism can be done in many ways, and this work of us is just an example of it. We did not baptized anyone but there is a great cost in the heart of our brethren. It is something that no one can explain or imagine how joyous we are because there is an unmeasurable happiness in serving and joining God’s divine ministry. The Holy Spirit of Our Heavenly Father may continually work in the hearts of our parishioners that they may always support and join in every program or activity of our conference, district, and churches...
